Wednesday.
A public meating, convened by the Mayor was held last evening. The object was to secure the erection of a public JJ all on the acre given by Government, if the freehold of said acre can be obtained so that money can be raised on the building to assist in the erection, as it is desired to build a large Hall, sufficient for public accommodation for some years to come. The Mayor occupied the chair. It was proposed by Captain Steele, seconded by Mr Best,-" Tjiat a building committee of nine be appointed to assist the trustees in building the public hall of Hamilton." Carried unanimously. The following gentlemen were - appointed :-—Messrs Laishley, Dawson, Calder, Coates, McLennon, Gwynne, Kinox, Cummings, and Hill, with power to fill T^cancies. •v.'^
