Sn,—l hope you will excuse me for again trespassing on your ?aluable columns, but tlie letter of Thomas James, demands a little attention at my hands for rarions reasons—the first being, that I with to inform Mr T. James, that out of no ill-feeling was my prerious letter written; that I believe he would try to take care of anyone working under him to the best of his well-known ability, still, in the face of that, I cannot understand why it it impossible to fix small landing ftagei, for it is the general belief that, where a ladder can be placed in position, there is room for. two or three boards, and the Caledonian shaft being one of the
largest on the field, the rule ought to apply. Mr James informs me that he is * pleased to raise and lower men free of charge when the engine is at work. I think that is eight hours out of the twenty*four. Lately, men who are on aight thift, tributers and others, hare to - descend, particularly on Sunday nights.
