O'Connor, the Pedestrian.
There was a fair attendance at the Academy of Music, on Saturday evening, to see Mr O'Connor,, the champion pedestrian of Auckland, exhibit his powers as a walkist. The feat to be performed was the walking of seven miles in one hour-rthe distance sharing been; care fully measured in the presence of several geii tiemen. /.The.first two miles-were covered in lSinins. 25secs., 4 miles in 33inins. 50secs., and the ■even miles were com* pleted in 58mins. 12secs. The lait mile was covered in grand style—one local pedestrian, ■/ Williams, , who X. had the temerity to try for the cup, being beaten by over one lap.• He, however, walked exceedingly well. Several others^including George Wai te, and K. Newdick walked a few laps with the champion, but generally stopped before completing a mile, the. terrific speed kept up by O'Cpnnbr being' too much for their wind. Mr (L)'Connbr will, we understand, give another exhibition during the week. v ';
