The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held at the Council Chambers last night. Present—Cm. Ehrenfried , (acting Mayor), Grahams Price, Wilson, McGowan; Mennie, and Hansen. A letter was read from Dr Payne: reporting the outbreak of a case of scarlet fever in the house of Mr Baker, Walter street. Cr Wilson: Another guinea I suppose. A letter was read from Mr Jamei MeGowan, proprietor of- the allotment- ■ $n which the Commercial Hotel lately stood, stating that before the house was burnt, it waa rated for £115, but aa it was only as a racant allotment, he asked for as much rebatement as the Council may. deem just. It was resolved that the rate' be reduced. : ; '
