THE Evening Star. Ressurix. THURSDAY, JULY 24, 1879.

Oub friends—the members of the Opposition—are determined to keep our railway line before the House, and the public of the colony. The Government, for months past, have been abused in the Wellington Times about the construction of this line, and the statements of that journal, edited by another old friend of the Thames, the Hon. D. Pollen, seem to have been taken as the ground-work for the accusations against the Government. Mr McLean is also prominent in this attack upon the Ministry, and got his information about the railway, as he stated in his address to his constituents, from a member of a local governing body while visiting the Thames. The gentleman with whom Mr McLean spent most of bis time during his few hours visit to i the Thames is well known, and it may be interesting some of those days to ask how our friend could supply information that the railway was a swindle, the money being wasted and thrown away. When writing upon this subject previously we stated that there was not the slightest grounds for the assertions made about the line by the Times, and by reference to our telegrams from Wellington last night, we find Mr Macandrew remarking that the whole statements of Mr Richardson were a myth, and the objections to the line a farce. This seems to be the . only matter of complaint definitely laid against the Government, and as we are sure Mr Macandrew will be able to make good his assertions, that the line was | properly authorised, it seems to point out that little cause for fault-finding can be found against the Ministry, except the very general one of want of administrative ability. This is a question of opinion altogether, and we doubt very much if the independent members of the House would not rather bear those ills they have than fly to others that they know not of at the hands of Messrs Fox, McLean and party.
