OPENING OF PARLIAMENT.

Mr O'Eorke Elected Speaker.

WELLINGTON.
This day, 3.9 p.m.
Parliament was opened by a Commission consisting of Messrs Whitmore, Bell and.Richmond,,,
The Premier proposed Mr O'Eorke as Speaker, and; Mr Atkinson seconded. Both referred to Mr O'Eorke in the highest terms of eulogium. The election was unanimous. * '. : >'•
The Speaker was warmly applauded when returning thanks for the compliment paid him.
Mr Whitaker congratulated Mr O'Eorke, and spoke in a most complimentary manner on his career.
The House then adjourned at 2 o'clock till Tuesday next at 3.20.
