EXTRAORDINARY SCENE IN A MENAGERIE.

A short time ago when WpmbweH's menagerie of wild animals visited Tenbury, previous to entering Ludlow, having among the collection a very fine female elephant—Lizzie. Nearly five years ago, when the menagerie visited Tenbury, this elephant, after a hard day's walk, was allowed to drink a quantity of cold water, and, being heated with the walk, was attacked with a violent fit of colic. The poor animal suffered intensely, its moans and groans being dreadful. Mr Turly,' chemist, whose success as an animal doctor is well known, was called into the menagerie when the life of the animal was all but despaired of. By his vigorous efforts nnd skilful treatment the life of the valuable beast was saved. After this lapse of time the elephant "Lizzie '' did not forget her " doctor," for on the procession coming down Perm street on Friday, she immediately recognised Mr Turly at the door of his shop, and going to him gracefully placed her trunk in his hand. Mr Turly visited the exhibition at night, and he met with a reception on the part of his former patient which he had in no way calculated, upon. Gently seizing the " doctor " with her trunk, with which she encircled him with endearing embraces (to the terror of the audience, who expected to see him crushed to death), she bestowed upon him all the affection it was in her power to show, and it was some time betore Mr Turly was released from the rough demonstrations of gratitude evinced by the animal.
