(Pee s.s. Albion, at the Bluff.) (Pee Peess Agency.) * Meibottene. Black well, a Conservative, beat Gray, a Eeform League and Ministerial nominee, by 82 for Fitzroy. A large deputation of unemployed waited upon Mr Berry soliciting work. The Government appointed a Board to ascertain where relief can be found, or work provided. In some quarters the men seem discontented, aud many are disinclined to quit the metropolis. Placards were posted about the towu showing what could have been done with the five thousand pounds spent on the embassy. The Governor distributed the;|nedalsof the Victorian Humane Society on Friday, also a medal of the Eoyal Humane Society to Tom Pearce. A testimonial of 1000 guineas has been presented to the Dean of Melbourne who has attained his-80th year ; all denominations were represented, and two thousand people were present.
