The Taylor Comedy Troupe.

At the Academy of Music a very good house assembled on Saturday night to witness the first entertainment of this company. The high encomiums of the Press led most to expect a very good entertainment, but that provided exceeded the most sanguine expectations. The first piece was a short drama entitled the " Little Orphan," in which Miss Mattio

took in succession the characters of Annie, the Orphan, Angoline, a sympathetic young lady, Joe, a shoeblack, in love with Annie, and Sally Brown, a servant girl. In each character she sang a song, and after that in the character of the shoeblack the applause lasted a considerable time, in fact Mr Taylor had to explain that Mattie had already changed for the next character, and could not respond to the encore. In the next piece Mattie appeared in haH'-a-dozen characters, as a girl of the period, a kitchen maid in love with a policemau, an old man of 72, and others, all of which she impersonated with groat faithfulness, and sang the songs in a very pleasing manner. Mrs and Mr Taylor both contributed to the entertainment, besides filling up the time while Mattie made her changes : the former with several songs and the latter with a solo on the two banjos. The performance concluded with "• On Bread and Water," a piece in which Mattie, a little girl at a boarding school, is punished for her carelessness by being confined to her room, and only allowed bread and water. There is a great deal of acting in the piece, all of which Mattie is equal to, and with her vivacity keeps the piece going. Mr S, A. R. Owen played the accompaniments. The ..whole entertainment is a capital one, and well worthy a visit. To-night there will be an entire change of programme, in which Mattie will appear in new characters, and sing a number of songs.
