'' iiDTEETISBMENT.] EEPLY TO ME HART. - (To She fiaitbr of the Evening Star.) Sib,—ln reply to Mr Hart's letter of the 21at inst., I wish to say that I asked permission while Mr Hart was present to say a few ,wprds to the Council,- after their discussion :on the proposed bye-law in apjKßfgif toi J^r Hart's sworn statements, go that Mr H". could have stopped to hear them,if, he liked. Ido not wish to excite the '! sympathy " of the public, as Mr Hart imagines, and if I had been in the wronjpvby< keeping offensive premises, I should not r have had one word to say in objection to the proposed bye-law; but, as it will affect a large interest,' as well as the public generally, I think that it is nothing but right that I should show the vindictive spiritand spleen that actuates Mr Hart: "'Withrefer ence to "the large frame I'witli''ba^s; of scraps, bones, offal, &c," I,state that.this is only the ordinary offal .rail, for bullocks' heads, sheeps' plucks,'and the like that are sold day by day to the public by every butcher, and which would never come to the notice of Mr Hartjunlesß he expressly looked over into nay yard for the purpose. Referring to the " stale meat, bad potatoes, stones, &c," alleged by Mr Hart to have been thrown into hisyard and at his children, I can only say that this sort of annoyance has come from his side to us, as I can prove by those who have been in my employ, and that when we'have complained of it the answer has been, " there is another lie," and I and my wife have repeatedly been called liars by them. I am glad to see that Mr Bobbett meets the approvalbf Mr Hart by his not keeping pigs in town, but I should like to ask Mr B. if the Borough ends at Mr Hulme's oldshop, and what about the pigs that were there ? Before I opened my shop in Pollen street, and afterwards, I was informed by Mr Hart's iOwn friends what they would do, and, notwithstanding that I have been subjected by him to the frequent annoyance ©f visits from the Police and the Inspector of Nuisanc.eSi ; . Jthey have, never (as Mr Harm's swojjn, statements will prove), been able tQifiodi any, cause for complaint at anything .jowd [on my premises. Besides, I too have a wife and family, and study their health'and Comfort as much as >my neighbours* If Mr Hart •hould move I would suggest that he had better' go to Rangitoto Reef, or some equally, lone place,. where he would have no neighbours, but if he remains I trust that he ; will confine b'.mself to the truth, and not put me to the trouble and expense of writing letters concerning bye-laws and awine. ■Vi* 1 ;'!'
