' ;, [aDTKBTISEMBITT.] , { (To the Editor of the Bvening Star.),. i.., : §ib,—-I find in your issue of the 20th, , when reporting the proceedings of the i Borough; Council meeting on the - evening 1 of ihe 19th, that; Mr J. f jWnsend ad- ; ,d?eßßed !<th reVCbuncil.-, Irery much; regret ' now, having, left; the Council Chambert-so. i. soodi ai| X did. I concluded the busineas > connected with my complaint was over, : : or I should have been able to answer Mr r Tpwnsend'a language, if permitted. Your) report says—Mr Townsend stated that I was determined to get him oat of his i ; prlesent premises. Such a statement is . pnly a t&k> to excite sympathy, as such ■ wjmld be a very silly threat for me to make ',' against a capitalist, and ; was neter used' by me in th« way stated;: also, that I was | acjtuateft by private isplden. I 4eny this 'most positively, as my explanation v sfalew any spleen comes from him, and has been shewn in a most positive manner to myself and family: He has challenged me to fight; he has called me names; . threatened to close up a window which I . got done; he has placed a large frame with bags of scraps, bones, offal, entrails and objectionable matter against my fence and house and water tap to give us annoyance—such still exists to the . present time., Stale meat, bad potatoes,, iand stones have repeatedly been thrown into my yard and at my children. We have .been jibed and ridiculed by him. \ Let him speak of the spleen I have shown' to 1 hini. If complaining to him of annoyance from his pigs is spleen it may be. Ifwas beyond my endurance to see "' my family and self suffering from their ' bffensivenesi without protesting. l:|; ]We dealt in Mr T.s shop from his opening about March, 1878, till December, of the same year, continuously, and did not , discontinue dealing at his place until this objectionable animal matter, was placed against our fence, and offenco given to : my *f if* When purchasing meat, on which' I tbld her not to deal there any more. A j good citizen would not give me all the' fanboyanrffc I speak of, and acouse .me, of private spleen. I deny having any such thing,; but most certainly am I hostile to the offensiveness from a number of pigs, as 1 was the case last year and the summer past. ' I had hoped to have moved; the Borough '.authorities by several applications for a long time past to the, /fact that: a number* of pigs, kept ) like' we have experienced cannot be wholesome or comfortable, but there has been no result, and as a last resource I personally apply for a remedy. I ami met with, hostility by a. largely interested trade,; who are using'every advantage to counteract my ) single effort. If there is no remedy I suppose I shall have to move and give up my home and ruin my business prospects and; property on which I have spent a .large sum lately, sooner than lose our health and, comfort by living within the; hou?e with closed dporg during the summer; as Mr Townsend has purchased the allotment the other side of mine, so I am informed on good authority, and with my--1 Self between hi? two properties, if I am not protected by law, I can 1 imagine what, willlbe the results-time will tell. r Mr Hume, when in business on the Thames,. Jcept his pigs away from the town. Mr Bobbett does the same. Their - pifn ,s r e.nse of ,th? ,fitneS8 N °f n B B prompted' theni^b"do soi and justly so, SQpner,;than cause annoyance. ■?.- ; ■-, c ,?.»-,;.. | ' , I am, yours truly, ■■ i ; v '■■" '•"■' '"' '■ ■■"" '"''": John S.
