CHRISTCHURCH.
This day. S. Davis was summonod for having bought at auction a horse he had impounded under the Cattle Trespass Ordinance. The defence was that the offence was done unwittingly by the '< provisions of the aot being little known. This being the firit case of the kind ever i brought into Court, and-the complainant who had bid at the sale and hoped to get half the penalty, being actuated by, interested motives, the case was dismissed, ; the defendant paying the costs.
