The Accident at Tairua.
Dr, Andrews and'Mr-Plant returned from Tairua last riigh^, after visiting' Johnston King, the man injured by a' falling log. We regret to hear ihat there is very little hop* for the recovery* of the poor fellow. His left thigh was found smashed almost to pulp, and his left leg below .the knee sustained'a'.compound fracture of a very serious character.,. Dr Andrews did not deem it advisable to amputate the leg' in the present weak state of the patient, but treated him in the best 'way,. ppsjsil« tp lfrelie>e his sufferings. ThY trip" to'Taima'wai a' very dangerous aud unpleasant one, the road after the storm was almost impassable from the fallen trees, and the
creeks in some places were so swollen with the rains that it was dangerous to cross them.
