THE RACKET ABOVE.
Citizen Hans occupies lower rooms in a house f on Antoine street. There's* no one but himself ,and wife, and when evening comes and the night wind moans around the gables, he loves to spread out on each'side of the stove and smoke his big pipe, and fall into a pleasonl reverie. And rodceam of the hills of Bingen, "Which Blope (o the Kiver R'line ; Of eatiug his preizeta in Hamburg, And driuKing the geod Dutch wine. All this would be very nice but for the family with seven children up stairs. When the dusky shadows gather, the children begin to play " pull away" across the floor. When tired of that, they play.cir.cus and other games, and Citizens-: Hans :; is interrupted in his reverie,- an.d knocks his left knee against the hot stove and cries out:—- •'; .
" Py &\i^ieip t 'l[yTjmpoV^it'diajhome so queek" as makes somepody's head schwim l" '' v< '"' ; ..', \ : -<> ( '...,''" Last night, when the racket was at its height," Citizen Hans rushed up stairs and waded.through ;the entire? family/ After recovering * from., ,their. r .surprise, they rallied "on 1 the left' centre, and pitched Hans down stairs andinto'the' street, and ho was'tthjrowingmud andifightiog like a sawmill when arrested., . r; v "I expect dot I; schall go homeland moof oudt right avay,"''he • explained, when the officer, had finished.
" You will do that, will you ?'' asked the court.
"Py Shorge, I vill! Den yon dem shilders make all dot noise sompody vou'fc hear ifc, and deir tun vill all pc gone." " If you agree to move out I'll let you go." " I schall be oudt like some lightnings, Shudge. I schall get some rooms on dor top floor of some oder house, unid all' night long I schall pound,on der floor-' mit a glub, and kick mit my feet, und my frow she schall roll some tin pans all ofer der room. Good-py, Shudge—l wish you some happy JNew Year's mit your Christmas stocking."
