Eeports from Kawhia state that Tawhiao and followers are building a permanent settlement there on the site formerly occupied as a European township.

At the Chamber of Commerce to-day, a series of resolutions will be proposed by Mr Dargaville relative to the injury to Auckland trade by the removal of tbe timber duties. It is stated that between 500 and 600 men. have been thrown out employment and many vessels laid up. ,
