Tho following amusing adventure is described as having occurred at Florence,V —*'' A sad experience, which throw a temporary gloom over the whole party, happened, to"'Tom at the hotel one e?eninjf. Having a bad cold, he had gone to bed early, arid; though tlie day had been Tery hot, he folt chilly'and rang for an extra blanket. The landlady appeared in his bedroom, and; being unablo to speak a word of Italian, lio pointed to his chest to indicate that ho ; fiad a cold, and to tho inner aide of tho bcd-clothca to explain that he wanted more of thorn. Tom was; either too dramatic in his manner, or the lady gained her ideas of pantomime at the Italian opora, for she believed he was making a declaration of affection. $ho gave a short scream, and rushed off for her husband in a fury. The husband was fortunately able to speak a little English, and the was rectified the moment he appeared on the scene. When our friend related that story to us in an aggrieved manner in the morning, concluding witb the,profousd observation. 1 Trulj, aro, we in * Italy unredeemed,'' we could not. restrain our tears, and our aides ached for days afterwards."
