'< It was asserted here with certainty early this inprriing, on Fairchild's return from New Plymouth in the Hinemoa, that the lands being ploughed up in the proTincial district of Tarinakii north of Stoney Biver, form part of the lands dealt with by the Compensation Court held ten or twelve years since, and for which Crown grants have not yet been issued, as pointed out to the Government by James Mackay in his late report on'the East Court promises. The lands have been temporarily leased, and apparently permanently occupied by European lessors. 'TeWhiti feels no interest whatever in the subject', arid has issued no instructions. , All the interest' is felt and manifested by Motu, of Whareata. Its Blake's mother's people, r who live at' Puiiiho across, the Stoney
River.
When I was at Puniho with James Mackay about-the'twelfth of last April, Motu .complained bitterly about the tardiness in issuing the awards of the Court. After thinking over the matter I went to the native hostelry and sair Mrs PlumbrHge, who is in charge there. She is a Ngatiratoa, belonging to the Motu hapu, and learned from her that she had been well used. Her brother had been awarded land from the Compensation Court, but no award had hitherto been made. .....]
The. natives here say it is only another illustration of the New Plymouth Brethren's earth hunger, to eat up the inheritance of the Maori. The Government have this day been fully informed of the facts through their New Plymouth chief clerk of the Native office. ,,, ;
