Sir Wm. Fox addressed a meeting of his constituents at WaTerley, and was most attentively listened to and frequently cheered. A resolution of the fullest confidence and thanks was unanimously carried. On Wednesday erening a meeting of the Vigilence Committee wm . held, to consider a message from Major Brown that Kereopa, whose turbulent character is so well-known here, had threa>

tened to follow the example of Hiroki ( , by murdering the settlers, and Major Brown particularly. The subject was brought before Sir Wrn..Fox, who telegraphed to the Minister for defence suggesting the arming of the settlers, and that steps should be taken to secure Kereopa. No reply had been received when the meeting assembled. The meeting was crowded, and passed a resolutions that a memorial be forwarded to the Government asking them to arm the settlers and arrest Kereopa. The memorial was prepared immediately and numerously signed; it will be forwarded at once. A resolution was also passed by which those present agreed to enrol themselves as Volunteers. The survey pariies in the neighbourhood have been brought in and will not be sent to the field again until sufficient protection is received.;' ''V;
