A boy named John Atkinson was considerably injured about the face and abdomen at Maketu on Friday by the accidental explosion of a gun.
At the Police Court to-day, Ellen Whita'ijr was ctu 'ged with violently assaulting Thomas Truman by striking him on the hor.d with ; n a::e. As the man was in. the hospital the case was remanded. Sarah Gralbraith was oharged- with the concealment of birth of a female child, by placing the dead body in a water closet.. The Court was c] care d. The I prisoner cried bitterly when the charge was read. / fter hearing the evidence, the Magistrate said he must discharge the accused, as the cb"d was born before its time, and there was no evidence to show that she removed the body from the bed to the water-closet.
