This. day. The Belle Brandon, c -rived from the Marshall Group, reports continued fighting at the island of Majura. Several native men and women have been killed. Sir George \ Grey leaves to-morrow for Wellington. Mr Sheehan probably accompanies him. The Working Men's Club has prepared an Anti-Chinese petition, which, after being largely signed, Mr W. Swanson, M.H.8., will present to the House of Representa'Ves. The Committee of the Club will decide on Thursday evening whether the Governor shall be addressed on the subject and whether r, public meeting sbnll be called in order to bring the matter more prominently before the public. Sergeant-Major Tolty died at the Hospital yesterday. He has a brofher at Wanganui. An inquest will be held to-morrow at the Hospital. A. great flood has occurred up country, and telegrams from Brury state that at the Hunua striking evidences are to be seen of the late floods. Huge lo#s were tossed up into paddocks, where they lie, the wire ; fencing is covered with grass and rushes washed up against them. Runciman's bridge collapsed on the Great South Road. It was only repaired the other day by County Council. Slippery Creek bridge is washed entirely out of the disL'ict. A man is reported to have been drowned at Ararimu. The police are making inquiries.
