HOSPITAL ENDOWMENT. <! ' The President said he had interviewed the Premier and the Hon. John Sheehan in Auckland re the Hospital Endowments. Since his interview with Sir George GrVy* he had received a, telegram stating that the matter would be attended to at once. Mr Sheehan suggested that town lots should be set apart for such purposes. Mr Frater suggested that the Committee should endeavour to get suburban or rural lands as an endowment in preference to town lots, which were often of questionable value. If they could not-get land at Te Aroha, the Waiharakeke block, which had recently been purchased by the Government, might "supply'their wants. It was resolved that the President, Vice-President and Mt Frater be a committae to attend to the matter r of endowments. Herald. - >"- w- ; ' A KNOTTY POINT. Mr Mulligan said that he had been requested by a patient in the hospital named Williams, to ask if Dr Gilbert would be permitted to attend him. The patient was very bad with an ulcerated throat, and Dc Gilbert had asserted that he could cure him. I " Mr Frater said by complying with', the man's request a very bad precedent would be established. '"~: , Mr Brassey spoke strongly in favqr of the patient's request being complied with, and if the committee would agree to it he himself would guarantee to pay for Dr Gilbert's medical attendance. ! Father "O'Reilly said his sympathies were -with Mr.^Aitken's amendment, to which he suggested'the adding of the words, " provided',the consent of the House Surgeon be obtained." Mr Mcllhone .then moved a further amendment to the effect that the matter be. referred to the House/Committee and House Surgeon. ' ! Rowe and Wilson. CONGBATUIATIONS. On the motion of Mr Mcllhone a vote of congratulations was passed to /the President, it being the first. occasion in which a Mayor of the Borough had occupied the Presidential chair. ■ The President objected to receive the motion, which led to considerable discussion,, but .to, pre>vent" further waste of time;.putlit>to the meeting, when it was unanimously carried. • • ' This concluded the business.
