A meeting of the Domestic Water Supply Committee is called for this evening, ' when the question of payment for the i pipes supplied by Mr McOaul will come up~for discussion. A great deal depends upon this matter,- and a! settlement of it may also lead to a settlement of the vexed question of which local body shall become the sole possessor of the Supply, and manage it for the future. It is unfortunate that upon a matter of such vital importance to this community our looal bodies should quarrel. The County possessing one quarter interest in the whole Supply, does not feel inclined to allow the Borough, holding the remaining interests, to acquire their share by purchase, and the Borough, on the other hand, while, anxious to purchase) the County's interest, refuses to sell to that body. Why such a difference cannot be amicably settled is a mystery to us, and certainly reflects but little, upon the wisdom and common sense of the members of the Committee. It is time, however, that the dispute was ended, and the, wants of the community, not the individual- interests of either local body, were receiving attention. It calls for the interference of the ratepayers, for their interests are being neglected owing to the dead lock, we may cVI it, between the two sections of the Committee. The bank, seeing of course the unsatisfactory state,of affairs, refuses to give any further advances, and the Committee, with its limited income, are wholly unable to administer the duties intrusted lo them. It is needless for jus to say further upon this subject, but we trust that the common sense of the members, and the knowledge that they ere false to their constituents, will lead thenv to bury all other considerations, and see that the wants of the community are first attended to; and, if individual opinions are to be discussed, to put off the consideration' of the same to a more convenient and suitable season.
