WELLINGTON.
This day. .Two brothers of the name of Maxted vrere brought up at the E.M. Court this morning for not contributing towards the support of their aged father and mother. The evidence showed that one brother owned;2Co acres land and 20 head stock, the other ab3ut seventy acres and a lot of stock, and that- for years -they had not contributed in the slightest degree, towards their parents support, or even enquired as to how they managed to exist. The magistrate said it was the first case of the kind he ever had in the colony, and he hoped it would be the last. It was a disgrace to the. colony to see men in the position of Maxted's allowing a crippled fathe?;and decrepit mother to go neglected; and he ordered: each to pay 7s 6d per week towards the maintenance .of their parents. One brother said, " I can't pay. ihave not the means." The magistrate
replied, " It is no use you saying that, the j law is more powerful than you, and will find out a way to compel you." Information is to be laid against another brother not yet summoned. ' s ,'','!
