Thursday. An ,iDquiry r into the .fire at, Mabel, on the 22nd ult., J in vconnection with which; Pat. McMenamin was committed for trial . on a charge of iucendiarism, with a view to the insurance on the entire horse destroyed in the stable burned, v?as held in the gaol, when James Lyons deposed that herwas in the service of Jas. and Patrick McMenamin and overheard them devise a scheme for destroying the horse. 'James told his brother that if he would make ready at the stable by laying brushwood \ about he could dothe rest. On the night of .March 22nd, saw^McMenamiti go direct-to the stable. Lyons managed to approach within 30 yards unobserved. He saw him set fire to the bush, and then seize a crowbar .and knock the horse on i the head, the. animal falling under the blow. The r Insurance Company's solicitor said he Bhould ask to withdraw the charge against Patrick.MeMenamiu.and lay it against thei brothers conjointly, for having wilfully caused the death-of the hor?e, thereby defrmding the Insurance Company. The magistrate granted leave, and a warrant was issued against James M<"Meuamin, who was arrested within half an hour. Bail was offered in £20), and two sureties in £500. The case comes 'on at the KrM. Court'on Monday. The Bluff-Harbour- Board- has decided to float a loan of £50,000. In a letter to the Harbour Board a'Dunedin speculator who bought the Ann Gambles wreck states his loss at £3000. '"
