"Mem Gott," I dink, "Dot ist a sbild in die rifer," unt I shrimp ou^fert dresg myself mit mien hat, unt den green down to die rifer pank. It Tas as dark as tree nights, put I shust see somedings Tite on a poulder. "Hi dere," I say,"Tart yquanrP •"., " M—a !" he say so lout untpitteVdot I begin to veep till I nearly K ry. But I not like to touch mien foot mit die Tater so I not go in yet. Den I ask Tere his' fater, unt he say "Ma " again. So I dink he not undershtant my English,- peoause I seem to shpeak English mit derleft hand, but I shTears petter'as eferybody efer vas. So I shust shpeak fife or six Pl*- BhTears, and den dot shild say M—a again so pitter dot I vas have to go m after him; Mien Gott! dot Tater vas as colt dot it shilled die marrow in mem soul. But I put one foot in aut den I put anoder in, unt I say: " I gome mien shild, I gome," unt I shpeak nice to him, as I go. It Tas so dark dot I Tas liat to zee him mit mien hant, unt Ten I touch him he feel like hair, unt as soon ai I touch .him he say, "Ma!" more lout unt pitter still, unt shumpt five thousand ieet unt vas novare.. Den I.know dot shild vas a goat. Dunder! Tbulled miefc soli out of dot rifer by die hair of mien head, unt kicked mieu self into mien hut and hammert mien self tilLI notshtant it no more. Mien Gott!
