The associated insurance agents decline to make any further payments to the fire brigades, on the ground that when making certain payments some time ago they did so on the understanding that they were not to he asked for any more during that year. The City Council will give the brigades £75 to aid in purchasing uniforms and any further sum required will probably be supplied by the public.
After a good deal ordiscussion, the motion to get the banks to tender for the city banking account was withdrawn.
The revenue collected in the port of Wellington last month is £16,432, for corresponding month last year £13,661.
The: drapers and clothiers association have decided to draw up petition lists requesting the public to discountenance shopping after six o'clock on Saturdays ; the lists will be left at the principal establishments in the City.:
