AUCKLAND.
This day. Thames and Waikato Railway.
Turning of the First Sod at the Waikato 33ad.
The turning of the first sod of the Thames and Waikato railway at Hamilton was a great success.
The Ministerial party were met at the station by tho Mayor and a large number of influential people, and driven into Hamilton by a splendid team. By the officiousness of one person, however, Sir George Grey was rushed into a wrong carriage, thus dividing the Ministerial party. There was a splendid luncheon at Pearce's Commercial Hotel, the Mayor of Thames and the Mayor of Auckland being among the guests. : The sod was turned in Mr Claude's paddock, a small area being fenced for the purpose. • A complimentary address, referring to the occasion as auspicious of peace and progress, was read by the Deputy Mayor of Hamilton, and was suitably replied to. Ministers returned to Ngaruawahm to take steamer for the Kingite meeting.
