OHINEMURI.

[fkom our own cobbespomdehts.]

Paeeoa, Monday eight.

A public meeting was held in the Public Hall here to-night, to take into consideration the advisability of separating Ohinemuri Biding from the Thames county. Mr C. F. Mitchell occupied the chair, and explained that it was the intention of the promoters to have had a private meeting but in deference to the wishes of those present, it was determined to have a public one. In the course of his remarks Mr Mitchell cod* doomed the treatment of the Ohinomuri district by the Thames County Council, and by the Chairman, who, on his last trip to Wellington, had got an order in Council passed separating a portion of Ohinemuri Biding, now known as Totara Biding, without the speaker's knowledge, or without the consent of the inhabitants. He also pointed out that large sums of money were spent over which m«mb«rs for Ohinemuri Hiding had no direct control, and urged that immediate action be taken to carry out the object of the promoters of th* meeting. Messrs G. Veiey Stewart, Ajfem Porter—who had a sharp passage of inns with the Chairman, re the authenticity of some of his statements—and others, addressed the meeting in favor of separation, all appearing unanimous in favour of cutting the painter. "' ■■'. i" 'I?> y, ] A resolution, was carried affirming the desirability of separation from the Thamu County, and a large and influential com* mittee was appointed to take all preliminary steps, after which another meeting will b» called. ■.•., .. v ,
