A Bolt on Burke street Wharf.

Considerable excitement was caused in the vicinity of the Burke street wharf to-day r ,by the bolting of a cab with a pair of horses belonging to Mr Baker, and a horse and dray_ the property of Mr Ferguson. At half-past eight o'clock ftis morning, as the Botomahana was leaving the wharf, the cab (the driver of which was off the box) was standing on the wharf, and Mr Ferguson's cart was waiting for a load, when suddenly the horses' took fright at something and started down the wharf, at full speed. The vehicles were abreast for the greater portion of the distance, and all went well till they neared a line of empty trucks near the toll house. Here the, cab collided with the trucks, and the runaway cab horses were, stopped, both suddenly collapsing, breaking the pole of the vehicle. At the same moment the cart came in contact with a lamp-post, and suddenly turned upside down, the horse being carried off his feet, and next instant was kicking his lega in the air. Several men employed on the reclamation works seeing the accident hurried to the scene, and extricated the horses. The cab horses were found to be severely cut, and the cab considerably damaged, while the fine draught horse of Mr Ferguson was so much hurt that feart are entertained as to his recovery. He had to be taken to the stable on a sledge. There is a difference of opinion as to where the fault of the accident lies; but, generally speaking, there appears to be a good deal of carelessness with drivers of vehicles whilst on the wharf.
