NAPIER.

The clever capture of a man named McLennan was effected by Inspector Scully. McLennan had been drawing valueless cheques for some time, and getting into debt by fraudulent representation, and when the police at last got on his track he eluded them very cleverly for some time. He was, however, at length surprised and captured by Inspector Scully. McLennan was armed with a revolver, which he snapped at Scully, but it did not go off. He then pointed it at himself, but the attempt was defeated by Scully throwing up McLennan's arm.
