Native Lands Court.
A sitting of the Native Lands Court was opened by Judge Heale in Shortland this morning for the purpose of rehearing a land case, on the application of Hori More, a claimant to block Hape No 1. south. It appears that this block was granted to Eaplna Maungaroa some six years ago, and a succession order bed, since his death, been granted to his children, his successors, but a claim has been now put forward by a native named Hori More to this same block of land, and during last session of Parliament an Act was passed enabling the Government to grant a rehearing of the case. Mr Miller appeared on behalf of Eapana's children, and protested against the case being reheard, pointing out that to establish such a precedent would lead to an insecurity of title to all the lands in the Colony, and in this case there 1 was evidence to prove that the present applicant was present at the sitting of the Court at which the disputed block of land was granted to Eapana, and then had made no objection to the issue of a grant in the'latter's faror.
