ADJOURNED MEETING.

The business of the last ordinary meeting was then proceeded with. The question under discussion was the salaries and expenses, a resolution having been moved that the collector's salary remain as it was. The resolution had not been carried. .'*■''■

Cr Mennie, who moved the adjournment, asked if Mr Fleming's time was all used by the Borough. , The Town Clerk said that Mr Fleming 1! time, and more than his time, was employed by the Borough.

Cr Wilson moved that the Collector's salary remain as it was.

Cr McGowan thought all the small matters of expenditure should come before the Finance Committee, who, with the Mayor, could see that the Council was not imposed upon. He seconded the motion, which was carried.

Cr Mennie moved, and Cr Wilson seconded that the item, " Engineer, 5 per cent, on all works" remain as it was. Carried.

Cr McGowan moved, and Cr Price seconded that the salary of the health and relieving officer remain as at present. Carried. •

The salary of the messenger and auditors was allowed to stand.

It was resolved that when any extra clerical assistance was required the matter should come before the Finance Committee. " ■■'"■:

Mr Dean stated that it would be necessary to get some subscriptions to assist in • getting exhibits prepared. He knew one gentleman who would give £5, and probably His Worship the Mayor would do likewise. !
