Volunteer encampment al Brisbane racecourse was ankle deep in water. The men took refuge in the grand stand.
Sydney, April 12.
The Sydney military Easter encampment was a great success. Nine hundred infantry lodged in the Victoria barracks, and the strictest discipline was observed.
A torpedo boat cut clean through a small craft in the harbor. Eich quartz has been struck at Bar* rington.
The Exhibition building is progressing with amazing rapidity.
There has been a serious split amongst the Newcastle colliers with reference to the vend system.
The crew of the Gazell, barque, from Solomon Islands, arrived in a pitiable condition, having suffered terribly from fever and ague. The barque was navigated nearly the whole voyage by the captain and steward.
A boat of the schooner Stanley capsized on the Coast, and the mate was drowned. The crew swam ashore and lived with the Natives.
Foley, Mace, Thompson, and Hicken were charged with a breach of the peaco and discharged. The evidence failed to prove a prize fight.
