CREMATION WITH A VENGEANCE.
The Indianopolis (Ind.) Sentinel tells a fearful story of the poetic justice awarded by a certain locomotive engineer upon one of the fields who make the obstructing of railroad track, and consedemolition of the trains, the business of their lives. This grim hero of the throttle valve had his engine thrown from the track many times at a certain point by some persistent enemy of humanity, and his ability was becoming seriously ques« tioned. He determined to stop it. On nearing the fatal spot one night he sat silent at the throttle, and, telling his fireman to be sure and follow him if the train was banked as usual, and jumping into the darkness, tbe engineer and his lieutenant captured the culprit in a neighboring cornfield. The enraged passengers wanted to lynch the man on the spot, but the engineer —a slern, determined man— prevented it, remarking that he would take charge of him, and the fellow was placed on the engine, under guard of the fireman. The train being righted, was soon speeding on its way as though nothing had happened. While bowling along a smooth piece of track, the engineer beckoned- the fireman to stand on one side. The latter did so, and the engineer picked up a round stick of wood and struck the criminal a stunning blow on the head. He then caught the quivering - form of the poor wretch, and opening the furnace-door, threw it into the hot, seething flame. The door was shut, the train rattled along, and never until the engineer confessed tho act upon his deathbed, was it ascertained what had been the fate of the fiend who had been jn the habit of tho wing the train off the track..,
