HAUEAKI ENGINEEES

This fine company with their new brass band mustered 85 strong at their drill shed on Thursday evening on the occasion of the.ir annual inspection by Colonel Lyon, who was accompanied by Major Murray. At the re.quost of the inspecting officer, Lieuts. Barlow, Denby, and Sergt. Clarke .put the men through sevoral evo- ! lutions, which were executed creditably, j At the conclusion the following members ] cf the corps were presented with prizes :•— j Sergt. J. Cloutt, a large oleograph of the value of ton guineas, for aggregate shooting (presented by Captain J. S. Sergt. G. W. Clarke, a massive Small); silver goblet of the value of eleven guineas for aggregate shooting and attendance at parades (the goblet was the gift to the company of an anonymous donor, a friend of Lieut. Denby's); CorporalBugler Hawkins, £110s ; Sapper Agnew, 16s; Sapper S» Fisher, 7s 6d ; Sapper Dare, 10s ; and Sapper Keller, 5s (money prizes given by the Captain to the best attendants at parades during the previous half year). Colonel Lyon then, in a brief speech, complimented the men on their steadiness and the cleanliness of their , arms and accoutrements, after which a short march out took place.
