WELLINGTON.

This day. Thos. Williams was brought up for sentence this mornng for robbing £33

from a Forester's lodge. In consequence of certain points of law raised by Mr Fitzgerald, his counsel, the judge deferred sentence to next Circuit Sittings, and in the meantime he will submit the point raised to the Court of Appeal. A meeting of ratepayers, the Mayor in the chair, having carried a resolution approving of the raising of the hundred thousand loan for paving and curbing the streets, the Mayor announced he would take a general poll on the subject at an early date.

The newspapers here do not publish on Good Friday. Mr Stout, Attorney-General, having been taken seriously ill last night, has left in the Hinemoa for Lyttelton, from whence he will proceed home by railway.
