AUCKLAND.
This day. In a case in the Police Court to-day, in which a man was charged with stealing a book belonging to the Mechanics' Institute, the police stated that no record .was kept of books lent out. The Taiaroa leaves the Mahukau for the South immediately on the arriral of the mail. The boys who escaped from the Industrial Home, stealing a boat and provisions, were to-day sentenced to various terms of imprisonment with floggings. The Magistrate regretted that there was no reformatory to send such lads to.
