THE BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sib, —A petition having been forwarded to the Government to enforce the reading of. the Bible in public schools —it being, decided before the schools were established no such teaching would be allowed—l wish to ask those interested if they have carefully considered the effect likely to be produced hereafter on our children if the Bible is taught now. It is well known, or should be, 'that our learned men have been for years past altering and revising the present altered and revised Bible, and their labours are likely to be finished in two or three years time. Now, if our public schools enforce the learning of the present edition, in a few years time they may have to undo all that has been done, and the effect on the children is not to be calculated. Would it not be wiser for those who wish for the Bible to be read in our public schools to wait till the present edition is altered and revised, and not be enforcing two versions on our children in tbe public schools before deciding whether the Bible shall be read or not.—l am, &c, X.R.
