AUCKLAND.
This day. The stoker of an engine was killed on the Kaipara railway by the water tank falling on top of him while he was watering his engine; his back was broken, and he died in a few hours. Hill, for the forgery of a promissory note for twenty-three pounds purporting to be drawn by Cunningham, hotel-keeper, was committed for trial. At the Board of Education to-day, J. M. Clarke was elected a representative on the Board of Governors. The German residents intend to give a ball on Monday to the officers of the German warship Albatross. The Kaitangata Fund exceeds nine hundred pounds. The final meeting will be held on next Wednesday, when the amount is expected to exceed a thousand pounds.
