Theeb is at present in London (gays the Morning Post) a distinguished Australian colonist, Dr Beaney, the senior surgeon and lecturer on clinical surgery in the Melbourne General Hospital, who . has been entrusted by the Government there to visit all the medical institutions in Great Britain, on the continent, arid in America with theview of ascertaining, if the colonial hospitals would suffer by comparison with siniilar institutions in the old country. Since Dr Beaney's arrival he has visited all the principal hospitals in London, where doubtless much Taluable intormation has been afforded him. He has also been over to Ireland, with the same object in view. He purposes in the future to visit Scotland arid the Continent, when, after being in America, ho will have obtained a fund of knowledge for the benefit of' the colony in which.he holds so prominent a position. Ope of the first acts of Dr. Beariey, on his Returning to the Old Country, after an absence of many years, was to visit bis native city, Canterbury, whoro he made handsome donations to the public insti. tutions, distributing coals to 2500 of the / suffering poor, and signalising his revisit ' the scenes of his youth by deeds of charity and acts of benevolence, in consequence of which the inhabitants entertained him at a banquet.
