Ope of the first acts of Dr. Beariey, on his Returning to the Old Country, after an absence of many years, was to visit bis native city, Canterbury, whoro he made handsome donations to the public insti. tutions, distributing coals to 2500 of the / suffering poor, and signalising his revisit ' the scenes of his youth by deeds of charity and acts of benevolence, in consequence of which the inhabitants entertained him at a banquet.
