Water Supply Committee.

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee was held at the Borough Coucoil Chambers last evening. Present—the Mayor (in the chair), Messrs Brodie, Ebrenfried and Speight.

MINUTES.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The Secretary reported that he had not yet sued Captain Souter for the water, as on enquiry he found that if they charged Captain Stouter at the amount indicated on the meter they would have to take him to the Supreme Court, which would mean great expense. Captain Souter refused to come to terms, and he asked for further instructions. It was resolved that the Mayor and County Chairman see Mr Souter, and try arrange the matter with him. THE IRON PIPES. The Secretary said that £15C0 worth of iron pipes would be out here soon, and they had no money to pay McCaul with. It would be a serious loss to him, and if he sold the pipes elsewhere it would be at the risk of the Committee. Mr Speight said it would be a pity to see the pipes go out of the place. Could they not come back to the old proposition and get the money, out of the Borough. Mr Brodie: I don't know what the County Council thinks about it. In answer to the Chairman, the Collector said there was only £30 of rates to ; collect. WATER BEBEEVE. A letter was received from the Mining Inspector, asking that as the Committee had now no use for the Waiotahi Water Reserve, the Committee give its assent to the return of the said reserve to the Government. It was resolved that the acquiesence of the Committee be given to this. QUEEN BTBEET. The Secretary reported that the Government were willing to contribute £50 towards the layings of a 4 inch main and three fire plugs to the Govenment Offices, Queen street. It was resolved that this be done, and the supply be further extended down Queen street if the residents contributed the expense. FENTON STBEET. Mr Pepper's application for water to be laid on to his house in Fenton street, Parawai, was then considered. The Turncock reported that it would cost £3 3s to make the connection. It was decided to grant Mr Pepper three years free water if he made the connection.

This concluded the business.
