Arrived : s.s. Australia, from Sydney,
David Wright, a stonemason, aged fifty, has been killed by a fall from a horse near Pukekohe. He leaves a wife and'nine children. It is a case of intemperance.
Col. Packe has left for the benefit of his health. He is suffering severely from asthma.
The Supreme Court criminal calender is unusually heavy, but there are no serious cases. The list comprises three cases of larceny, three of indecent assault three of horse stealing, one house break, ing, two stealing from the person, one arson, and one forgery.
At the Police Court, Joseph Button and and Eliza Prout Ellis, who were arrested at New Plymouth, were charged with larceny. The evidence shewed that the female prisoner pawned the goods. The case is proceeding. The committee, who voluntarily gave their services in placing new claims on the electoral roll, have foi warded claims for a total of 1665, of whom 1532 are freehold and leasehold, and 133 lodgers. The committee will also endeavor to purify the rolls. It is believed that the total new claims will amount to 2000.
