The presentation to Mr D. Eeid of a silver watch and gold chain and pendant took place at the Governor Bowen Hotel last night. A large number of miners were present, Mr George Wilson being in the chair. The chairman and several mine managers all spoke in complimentary terms of Mr Eeid, and the uniform kindness" he had ever shown in relieving sufferers from " fire " in the eye, and other complaints in connection with the eyesight. Mr Reid said, in reply to the remarks made about him, that it had always given him pleasure to relieve the sick and suffering, and never expected that his friends would reward his slight efforts in the way they had just done. He hoped he would be back on the Thames before many years, and trusted that a prosperous future was in store for all the friends he left behind. Mr Eeid went by the Eotomahana this morning, and was accompanied to'the wharf by a number of friends.
