THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. THURSDAY, MARCH 27, 1879.
The inhabitants of Wellington have accorded a hearty welcome to our new Governor Sir Hercules Robinson, which must no doubt be gratifying to him. His Excellency expressed a desire that the good opinion of his abilities, expressed in the address and welcome, would be maintained when they came to know each other better. We hare before spoken of the high opinion held of Sir Hercules Eobinson by the colonists of New South Wales, and we are sure that the people of N«w Zealand are not behind their neighbors in intelligence and ability to appreciate worth and rirtue. His Worship the Mayor, on behalf of the burgesses of the Thames, wired congratulations to His Excellency upon his safe arrival, and the assumption of his duties as Governor. There is every prospect that before long we may have the pleasure of seeing Sir Hercules Robinion on the Thames, and welcoming him in a manner worthy of our good name, and the importance of this district.
