A DAUGHTER'S DEVOTION.
Among the curiosities to be seen at the International Exhibition at Paris, was a growth of human hair, the very longest which, has been oflered for sale. It is r nearly seven feet long, and is of the most exquisite golden colour, luxuriant and silky. Its history is as follows:—A ?roung Norman girl, Meriot by name, ived with her mother in the extremes t poverty. The latter being sick for several yean, constantly needed little luxuriit and, comforts which the daughter was utterly unable to supply. A pedler knowing the family, and being acquainted- with their poverty, took advantage of the circumstance to offer 100 1 francs (about 19 dols.) for the daughter's superb hair. The poor old woman, to • whom the girl'.s golden locks were her "only pride, absolutely refused to part with them. The daughter, however, who, ;tb,oQgh) scarcely seventeen years of age, "understood the great benefit of even that "■urn, made a sign to the pedler. Apparently giving up the idea, the would-be merchant retired. • The young girl soon followed t Mm, and though unable to restrain:h&r tears at the sacrifice, permitted him to shear her crown of glory to ; the roots, for ,19 dols. The hairdresser now possessing this beautiful hair, has already Irefused an offer of 3,500 francs from a lady of title, being confident of obtaining a much higher price for it after the Exhibition.
