THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19, 1879.

By telegram we learn that His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales has accepted the Presidency of the Melbourne International Exhibition Commission in London. The great interest taken by the Prince of Wales in the ■■ Paris Exhibition contributed in a great measure to its success, and the fact that he has consented to act as President of the Melbourne Exhibition Commissioners cannot but have the very best effect, and will tend towards making the undertaking a success. From the great number of applications received by the Sydney Exhibition Commissioners fur space from England and America, and the energetio steps taken by the French Government, there is every prospect of our first colonial international exhibition being a success. The experience gained at the Sydney Exhibition, will no doubt be turned to account at the Melbourne one, and the latter may therefore be expected to be highly creditable to

the chief city of the Australian colonies. We trust that the opportunity thus afforded to New Zealand to contribute, in however such a small way, to the success of a world's show will not be neglected. The Government intend to offer every facility for colonists to Bend exhibits, and we believe the central commissioners have been instructed to furnish a report upon the Exhibition, especially dealing with the New Zealand Department, which will be published for general information. The chance for the exhibition of our products, and the opportunity to have New Zaaland brought so prominently forward, should be a matter of the greatest interest to all who have the future of our islands at heart. The success of such an undertaking depends upon the individual exertions of our colonists, and the advantages to all being so apparent, it is a duty devolving upon every citizen to help forward the good work in every way in his power. Dr Hector, Chairman of the Central Board of Commissioners, when on the Thames, stated that His Worship the Mayor would be authorised to form a local committee to receive exhibits, and in every way to assist in having this important district represented. We make these remarks that the subject may not be forgotten by our citizens, and that steps may be at once initiated by all who desire to send exhibits to have such prepared in good time. The Government pay all expenses of. freight and carriage to Wellington, where it is intended to classify the exhibits previous to their being forwarded to Sydney. A large portion, no doubt, of the contents of the Sydney Exhibition will be forwarded to Melbourne, so that exhibi-tors-will have the opportunity of having their contributions brought again prominently before the public.
