TAUPO.
Thursday. A few days ago Bewi met the Taupo natives living at Tokano, who are mostly sympathisers with the king party. He openly advocated the opening of the King country for railways, and strongly advised the chiefs to afford every ■ facility for making lines in any direction desired by the Government. Te Huarahi, and other well-known obstructionists, consented to follow Bewi's direction in the matter. Som.e even expressed a desire to lease or sell their unoccupied lands to Europeans, but Bewi deprecated this step, saying that at present he wished railways opened, as they would be a great boon to every one owning land in the island.
