The Hons. Ballance and Macandrjw leave for Wanganui and New Plymouth to-day overland.
Mr Sheehan leaves for the Waikato native meeting in a few days.
The City Council meet this afternoon to decide on arranging'for a welcome for the
new Governor.
About thirty persons are at work here on Land Tax business. It is reported that the valuers are rather behind with their work. . . •
It is slated that Detective Sullivan is to be transferred to Wanganui, and Detective Warner, now at Wanganui, is to replace Sullivan at Wellington.
Five pounds have been awarded to Constable Mackay for his services in arresting Brown, alias Furnace, recently sentenced for larceny, and for having skeleton keys in his possession.
The specifications in connection with the new Railway wharf provide that the contract is to be completed in nine months from acceptance of tender. A breastwork is to be constructed, abutting on the reclaimed land, and the wharf is to be run out 600 feet clear of the breastwork.

The Government bare ,determined finally to reclaim forty acres W- 'land for railway purposes between Eaiwarra and Pipitea Point.
At the inquest on the boy found drowned in the harbor, the evidence showed that the boy had been in the babit ever since he was four years of age of wandering away from home, md- staying out for several nights at a time without coming near his home. He was not i)\-treated at home.

The Athenaeum committee decided to open the Athenteum room on Sundays from two till five in the afternoon.
The body of a boy named Johns, missed on the 4th inst., was found floating in the Harbour to-day.
An excellent report of the prospects of the Golden Point mine has been brought over by a party who have just returned from a visit there.
The Education. Department estimates the number of children of school age in Wellington at 2172 boys, and 2236 girls. Its State Schools provide accommodation for 1385 boys, and 1040 girls.
