ASHBURTON.
.•■■.:-./::•■ -:-:>: Tuesday.
A collision occurred here this morning between an express train from Christchurch and a ordinary goods train from Ashburton ,to the capital. The points leading from the main line to a sideline on which the goods train stood ready for a start had been accidentally left open, and the express, passing off the main line, ran into the goods train. The fore carriages of both engines were consider* ably damaged, and the Yankee engine of the express most so. The buffers of two foremost l travelling carriages of the express were smashed, the wheels jolted off the rails, and some of the glass doors shattered. One passes ger got cut about the head, but no other damage worth mentioning was done. Little or no delay took place in forwarding on passengers, but the goods train was delayed a con* siderable time.
