TTNDER the distinguished patronage ef U His Majesty the King of Italy, at Rome, according to communication received from the Consul-General for Italy, at Melbourne, upon instructions from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, dated 14th March, 1878> •, f We are informed that dealers in mediciae ef ten try to sell the eucalyptus oil founa in the trade instead of our Eucalyptus Extract. So far as . the committing of imposition against the public in such a case is concerned the consequences would not be serious; but as the qualities of both of the products are in many cases directly opposed to one another, we consider it our duty to direct the attention of the public to the following facts :-— The eucalyptus oil is recorded to be of value as «t medicament in cases of rheumatism of secondary nature, and manifests a drawing, blisteriug effect upon the skin. Any blistering brought on by the application, of a medicament must increase itflamrnution, and it is therefore evident that in. caßes of wounds, colds, bronchitis, diphtheria, croup, sprains, Ac, the curative power of biir extract on the named diseases being unques" tiocably proved .by former publications, in this paper. An application of the oil instead of our. extract must impair the disease. The truth of our assertion is founded upon; the fact that the oil is a resinous product, equivalent to common turpentine, its market value being about three shillings one pound weight; our extracts consists of the evaporating particles of the gum leaves, soothing and healing in its effect's, its' price being twentyfour shillings for one pound weight.
